New family glamping retreat opening next weekend in the North Wessex Downs – in a boost to the local economy

A brand-new glamping destination is set to open next weekend in the stunning North Wessex Downs, providing a unique stay for families while boosting tourism and supporting the local community.
Feather Down’s Foxglove Farm, located near Inkpen common nature reserve in West Berkshire, will welcome guests from 4th April – offering a peaceful, off-grid escape, surrounded by rolling countryside and farm animals.
Nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the site will feature six, spacious glamping hideaways – each with its own outdoor shower – blending rustic charm with home comforts.
Visitors can get hands-on with farm life, meeting sheep, spring lambs, goats, and chickens, while enjoying farm tours to experience the day-to-day running of a working farm.
For the local community, Foxglove Farm’s arrival means increased footfall to nearby businesses and local attractions, meanwhile supporting farmers with a much-needed, alternative revenue stream via its partnership with Feather Down – which provides unique glamping experiences across the UK and Europe on working farms.
Foxglove Farm will also host an Open Farm Lambing Weekend on 12th and 13th April, inviting residents and visitors alike to experience lambing season up close.
Simon Bastable, who runs Foxglove Farm along with his partner Kathe, commented: “We can’t wait to welcome guests to Foxglove Farm and give them a taste of countryside life. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built here, and we’re confident families will love the chance to disconnect from screens, engage with farm life, and explore the beauty of the local area.”
Kathe and Simon bring generations of farming experience to the project. Simon first worked the land at Foxglove as a teenager after agricultural college, later becoming a tenant farmer before purchasing the farm in the 1990s.
Located just 15 minutes from Junction 14 of the M4 and under two hours from London, Foxglove Farm is the ideal countryside retreat for locals and visitors alike. The nearby village of Inkpen, near Hungerford, offers a charming selection of shops, countryside pubs, and cafés.
Vicki Baggott from Feather Down added: “Foxglove Farm is a fantastic addition to our collection of farm stays. Not only does it offer a beautiful countryside escape, but it also supports local farmers at a time when the industry is facing significant challenges.
“By welcoming guests, farms like Foxglove can diversify their income while sharing the realities of rural life. We know families will love the space, the fresh air, and the chance to reconnect with nature.”
